My Gender Identity

Rate this Entry
Never thought my first blog post would be something like this.

Beginnings
When I was younger I would awaken from dreams where I was magically transformed into a girl or born a girl and sort of wondered what if. My parents once told me if I was born a girl they would have named me Sara and I was quite curious of what if. I was always scared of doing dangerous/boyish things. I pretty much hate playing contact sports. I was always referred to as a sissy/"pussy" (excuse my language). I've always played it off as me simply being a nerd.

Recent Years
During Highschool, I was always referred to as "shy" and girls would refer to me as "cute" but not in the way a girl is attracted to a guy ie handsome more so in a the way a person finds a baby or kitten cute. I always took these as a compliment. During my senior year, I took Communication Arts and learned about Masculine and Feminine communication styles. I found out I speak very femininely. Four months ago a sorta friend(I should refer to him as an acquaintance at this point) asked me "Who are you?" (he doesn't know who I am anymore). These four past months I've been reflecting who I am as a person and one my major concerns is how I view myself genderwise. So I took the S.A.G.E. gender test and got this.

Now I'm more conflicted than ever. Honestly, I wouldn't mind wearing a dress as long as I looked cute in it.

I don't know what to think or do now.
Any advice?

I think I scored a -335 on that test. Either way, as far as identity goes. Set aside a day for you to completely be alone by yourself and just meditate on the idea. Really consider your life until now and ask yourself the all-important question. "Who are you, really?"

You are who you are. You can be a man and act in a feminine manner. You can be a woman and act in a manly fashion. You can be a female who wears suits and pants or you can be a male and wear skirts/dresses.

Fuck what others think and do what makes you happy. It really isn't that difficult.

This might be a perfect example of the best positive use for "queer" as an identity. (one of the Qs in LGBTQQWTFBBQ) You can just be kinda different in whatever way makes you happy.

But otherwise don't worry too much about labels. I think there's FAR too much pressure to IDENTIFY as something. Labels are for cans, not humans.

Be yourself. Try to hang out with a diverse group of people. Be happy! And come sit on my lap and tell me all about it. ;)

Labels are no good, don't worry about them, just be you. Do what makes you the happiest.

This probably best thing I can do right now just simply think about myself and try to find the preferred path. Maybe even spend an entire day looking like girl. If i enjoy it then I know what path im gonna take.

This isn't really a struggle against society for me but more an internal struggle with myself.

Back in middle school and early high school I used to hide that fact I was a nerd and would try be popular to avoid being called a weirdo. I would hang with the "Cool Kids" and felt out of place. Those years were very umcomfortable for me. One day I realized I enjoy anime and other nerdy shit and now im happier that ever. Honestly fuck those people that don't like that about me. If people don't like me looking like a girl fuck them too.

Identity in general is a legitimately tough thing to have to think about. And thinking about it too much is usually what leads people to totally recreate who they are, even if it's not something they really want to do. As everyone else has said, you are who you are. The more thought you put into it the more you're just going to end up critiquing and trying to change little things about yourself. While that's not always a bad thing, it can lead to some very complicated questions that, in the end, no one but you yourself can actually answer.

If you want a good idea of who you are, don't think about it yourself. Build up a close group of friends, people who know the real you genuinely care about that person, and see what they think. One of the best reflections you can get of yourself is through the eyes of someone who you've made a strong connection with.

The nice thing is you're at a point in your life where, not only do you have time to sto and think about who you are, but you still have plenty of time to decide exactly who you WANT to be and how you're going to become that person.

And hell, if other people don't like you for who you are, just don't be pay any attention to them. Pretending negative people don't exist is way easier than trying to go around being exactly who everyone wants you to be all the time. Life's short. Don't waste time with people who don't make you feel good about yourself.

There's no problem being an effeminate guy. Does it mean you need to conform to social and/or societal norms and do girly stuff? Not really, but some guys like that because of the different attention / feel it brings, or because it might feel "right" for them because it's the behavior of a gender they more closely identify with.

I've never heard of this S.A.G.E. test, but what you should remember most of all is that it's just an algorithm in the end. You decide what's best for you - not some whitecoat in a cubicle.
