  • TF2 Admin Commands

    Using Commands in TF2

    • Commands may be used in chat by replacing the "sm_" with "!" (for publicly displayed commands) or "/" (if you don't want it displayed), so sm_kick becomes !kick, /kick, and so forth.

    • You CANNOT type names with spaces, but a partial name will usually work. If you must issue a command to someone with a space in their name (like if Slick Deal and SlickDeal are both in the server) put the part containing the space in quotes ("Slick Deal"). This also allows an admin to issue multi-word explanations (!kick "Slick Deal" "Used Spy Exploit Repeatedly").

    Commands Available to Everyone

    nextmap

"nextmap" in chat - Show next map if one is in queue. May not show anything if server votes for next map.

    scramble

"!scramble" in chat - vote to scramble the teams. Must receive 60% of players to issue the command to start the scramble.
    timeleft
"timeleft" in chat - Shows time remaining for current map.

    thetime

"thetime" in chat - Shows current server time (American Central time zone).

    servers

"!servers" in chat - Shows list of TI servers to which one can switch by pressing the number for the target server followed by F3.

    rtv

RTV or Rock the Vote is a plugin enabled on most servers that allow one to change the current map. Typing "RTV" in chat will vote for RTV which triggers a map vote once a certain number of people have issued the command.

    !nominate

Nominate forces a particular map to appear in the RTV if successful. The map name must be listed in its entirety so "ctf_2fort" instead of "2fort". Only maps on the nominate maplist may be nominated.

    !votecrits

Starts a server wide vote to determine whether or not to disable random crits or to keep them enabled for the round. Requires a 60%+ of the server to vote in favor of one side to change it.

    Team-Only Commands

    Connect and Reserved Slot

The Connect command will allow anyone to connect to a server through the console. For the Team Interrobang servers, this is connect server#.teaminterrobang.com (replacing the # with the actual server number). For example, type connect server2.teaminterrobang.com in console to connect to our server #2. All servers work with these shortcut names.
All TI members have reserved slots (as well as those who give monthly donations) which allow them to connect to an otherwise full server. To use the reserved slot feature when a server is full, just use the connect command in the console.

    Commands Available to Junior Admins

    /admin

    • /admin - brings up your admin menu for quick, painless admin ability.
    • Usage: type /admin in console or bind it to a key (bind p "/admin" to use key p)
    • Pros: Easy to use - all the commands you have access to will be here.
    • Cons: Takes longer to use, unable to add comments to mutes, gags, kicks
    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_admin

    /chat

    • /chat - allows for admin chat on our servers.
    • Usage: /chat "Say what you want to say"
    • -example: to ask other admins if a player named SlickDeal is hacking
    • -- /chat Hey guys does it look like SlickDeal has an aimbot on?
    • NOTE: ONLY Interrobang members will be able to see what you are typing but all players on the server technically have access to this command. Your type will show up in GREEN and will be noted with (ADMINS) You need to learn how to do this BEFORE you actually have to use it! If not done properly, you will broadcast to the whole server, which can be embarrassing! Practice this the next time you're on the server and ask other Interrobang members if they can see it ok.
    • NOTE: This is the ONLY approved Admin chat command. You SHOULD NOT use the csay, msay, hsay, or others. This tool should be used to communicate with other admins, not to spam the server with messages...
    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_chat

    /gag

    • /gag - stops the text communication of a user
    • Usage: /gag PLAYERNAME
    • -example: to gag a player named SlickDeal. The gag command does not support log comments.
    • -- /gag SlickDeal
    • NOTE: You CANNOT type names with spaces in them, but you don't have to type the whole name, so you could also type the following: /gag Slick and you would get the same result
    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_gag

    /mute

    • /mute - mutes the voice communication of a user
    • Usage: /mute PLAYERNAME
    • -example: to mute a player named SlickDeal. The mute command does not support log comments.
    • --/mute SlickDeal
    • NOTE: You CANNOT type names with spaces in them, but you don't have to type the whole name, so you could also type the following: /mute Slick and you would get the same result
    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_mute

    /silence

    • /silence - mutes ALL communication of a user
    • Usage: /silence PLAYERNAME
    • -example: to silence a player named SlickDeal. The silence command does not support log comments.
    • -- /silence SlickDeal
    • NOTE: You CANNOT type names with spaces in them, but you don't have to type the whole name, so you could also type the following: /silence Slick and you would get the same result
    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_silence

    /kick

/kick - kicks a player from the server.

    • Usage: /kick PLAYERNAME comment

    • -example: to kick a player named SlickDeal and add the comment of griefing

    • -- /kick SlickDeal Griefing (this adds your comment to the logs)

    • NOTE: You CANNOT type names with spaces in them, but you don't have to type the whole name, so you could also type the following: /kick Slick Griefing and you would get the same result

    • NOTE: the command can be used in chat as sm_kick

    • NOTE: It is VERY important that we add comments whenever possible to give the FAs/SAs an understanding of why action was taken, ESPECIALLY when a player is kicked. You can add whatever comment you want, just make sure it makes sense.

    /afk_spec

    /afk_spec - Move a player to spec

    • USAGE: /afk_spec PLAYERNAME

    • -Example: A player named SlickDeal is sitting in respawn and tapping the keyboard to prevent himself or herself from going to spec automatically.

    • -- /afk_spec SlickDeal

    • NOTE: Normally the afk manager will move a player to spec after 2 to 5 minutes depending on the server. Sometimes this doesn't happen automatically and this command may be used to move a player.

    /psay

/psay "Text you wish to send" - Sends a private message to a player. Useful when you'd like a player to stop doing something but without calling attention. If you don't put your message inside quotes, it will clip the message short.

    sm_who

sm_who - This will show you, in console, a list of all the players connected to the server. For all team members, the list will also show the name they had when they first joined the team -- handy for the namechangers among us. The list also shows what particular admin powers each player has.

    /map

/map will immediately change the current map to the aforementioned map. Not to be used often. Should never be used on either of our 24/7 servers.

    sm_mapvote

These mapvotes should be executed from the admin menu, not the console or chat. This ability should be used with discretion, as repeatedly proposing a map that fails and repeatedly changing a map will be considered both admin abuse and text spam and will be dealt with appropriately. Also, members that attempt to induce players into changing a map via threats or spam will also be considered spam or admin abuse and will be dealt with accordingly. Also, if this empowerment is broadly misused, removing it will be trivial.
    Instructions for starting a mapvote
